Infographic Evaluation
To begin with I had to figure out how I wanted my infographic to look, such as how it was set out and what sort of facts and/or statistic I wanted to include.
The first thing I did was to research what makes a good infographic and what makes one engaging. I used websites such as https://neilpatel.com/blog/12-infographic-tips/ to get advice on how to set my infographic up. I’m glad that I did some research about what makes a good one rather than just going straight to Vengage and throwing loads of facts onto a page.
Once I knew which layout I wanted and how I wanted it to look I then started to look at what I wanted to base it on. As my entire FMP is about the overall growth in women’s football, I decided to base it around that and went with five facts about Women’s football.
When doing my research for the facts to put on to my infographic I found a UEFA website which was full of different information such as growth in attendances, participation and many other things. However, looking at my final product I wish I would have used more sources as it would have given me a wider variety of information.
Although I feel that the couple f site that I did use for my information for my infographic were useful I feel that If I would have done more research then my infographic could have been done to a higher level.
When it comes to the actual layout of my infographic, I feel that it looks good, is easy to read and get my points across effectively. The colour scheme that I used also looks good and makes my product eye catching. I also feel that the use of images means that people will stay engaged with my infographic longer as it’s not just pages and pages of statistics.
When I had completed my infographic, I asked a few people for feedback on my end product. Most people that I asked said that it was very informative and the colours which were used made it very eye catching.
Other feedback I got was try to fill the blank spaces that were left on some of the pages, in future I could try add some more bullet points or images.
Overall. I do feel my infographic is of a good standard however there is room for improvement. The next time I do something g to similar to this I will probably do more research about the topic my infographic is based on.
On the other hand, I am happy with how I have presented my information and I feel the research I did prior to designing my infographic helped me a lot.
Written Piece Evaluation
For my written piece I originally planned to do a feature article on the Sheffield FC ladies manager Helen Mitchell. I felt that this would be good as it would tie in with the match report that I planned on doing for my video piece.
To begin with I was in touch With Helen and she said it would be fine for me to go down to the ground and get the interview with her as long as it didn’t end up in the public domain. However, after sending several emails to Helen I had to start looking for alternatives for my written piece as time was beginning to run out.
After moving on from the Sheffield FC manager I spent several hours looking for someone else to interview that would tie in with my subject of the growth in women’s football. I preferably wanted a woman who had either managed a women’s team or a player who had seen the recent rise in popularity.
I was eventually put in touch by someone who worked at the college with someone called Chantelle Haigh from Doncaster belles ladies. Chantelle said that she would be able to do an interview over email, which was fine with me as I could use it for my written part of my assignment.
While I was waiting for the replies from Chantelle, I began to do some research on the club she works for and her managerial career. I also looked at some of the big stories in the news about women’s football at the moment that I could include in my feature article.
I found that the women’s Euros will soon be played in two south Yorkshire football clubs stadiums, Sheffield united and Rotherham. I felt this would be a good story that I could combine with my feature article and use the news story to back up my interview.
When it came to actually writing my feature article I felt one thing I cud have done better is link it to a trending story that was in the news about women’s football. Although I did link my interview with Chantelle to the Women’s euro’s I still feel I could have added a lot more. A new story about that shows the growth in women’s football Is in the news so I would have liked to have done better when it came that.
Another thing I feel I could have done better with in my article is add a bit of back-round knowledge on Chantelle. For example, in a feature article of Steph Haughton by the football times, at the beginning pf the article it talks about how she how and when she first got into football, when her first England cap was and a few other things. This way the reader gets to know the person who the features about more and connect with the article.
Overall, I feel that my written piece has been successful although there is still room for improvement. If I was to do this assignment again then I would have done some deeper research on the person who I was interviewing or I would have asked questions which they would give more details to.
Video evaluation
To begin with my video piece was going to be a match report on a Sheffield FC ladies’ game. However, after trying several times to sort something out with the manager at the club I had to move an as I wasn’t receiving replies and the deadline was getting closer.
I was told about someone called Lucy Ridley who was a sports lecturer at the college and also played football for the Rotherham united ladies’ team. I felt this would be a good person to interview about the rise in women’s football as she’s witnessed it first-hand.
After exchanging emails, she agreed to do an interview with me.
When looking back on the footage felt that a few things could be improved. The first thing I felt could have been done better is the camera angle, I did try to stick to the rule of thirds and to use an appropriate camera angle however when looking back I felt the angle could have been better. The camera angle looks slightly slanted and I feel a bit to zoomed in, it cuts a bit of her off at points in the interview.
Another thing I feel could have been better is the quality of the audio. The location of the interview was in a classroom which echoed so It would have been better to use an audio room at the college. You can also her rustling noises in the background with interferes with Lucy’s answers.
I feel that the editing part of my project went well. I used prior knowledge of using the editing software’s to edit my video and I feel it was successful. I did research on how other interviews with footballers had been edited and tied to put some of the stuff in mine. For example, I’d seen that usually there is some low-level background music running throughout the interview in other people video. I liked the idea of doing that so included that in my piece.
I did have to use players from the college football team for cut aways in my video as Lucy didn’t have enough time to take photos. This is something I would improve on if I was to do this project again. I would make sure the interviewee knew what I wanted so they had enough time to do it.
Another thing I felt I did well was the question I asked. The majority of the replies I got were useful for my video. I made sure I asked questions which she could really give one-word answers too and it worked. The answers I got were quite detailed and were the ones I was looking for and once that back up the point of my video.
One thing I would do differently If I was to do a video like this again would be contact more than once person when trying to get a someone to interview. Because the first person I contacted stopped replying it wasted a lot of my time where I could have been talking tit her people about an interview. If I would have done my interview sooner than it would have allowed me more tie to edit my video and take more care with it.
However overall I feel the video went quite well when filming and editing considering its one of the first times I’ve done it on my own.
Multimedia Evaluation
For my multimedia package I decided to base it on women’s football because it’s something that is in the news on a daily basis for mostly positive reasons so it’s a relevant topic to choose.
My target audience for this project was for people aged 14 and above and I wasn’t really targeting a specific gender as it was for anyone wanting to know more about women’s football however, I do feel more women would be more interested.
The way I set my multi-media package out was good and effective I feel. Most of the content in it all fits in with each other without all being about the exact same thing. Obviously, all the pieces are about women’s football however I made it about different parts to try and keep it interesting and keep the audience entertained.
I was told my Ellie that she enjoyed my video as it was very informative and put together well. She didn’t realise how far women’s football had come so it was an eye opener.
I’m happy with my end product as its not always been easy throughout making it. I’ve had people not get back in touch with me which slowed the process down however I feel I’ve done well to have produced the content which I have done.
I fell if I’d have planned thing out a little better than it could have been to a big higher quality however it’s something I’ll learn from and if I’m to do something like this again then it would be better.
I would also use my time more effectively as my interview was done last minute which didn’t help when it came to editing it. I felt like it was slightly rushed and if I had longer, I could’ve made the end product better, however overall, I’m happy with how my multi-media package has turned out.
