The first thing i did was begin to create my FMP website or all of my content to go on. I first looked at the title slogan and design I wanted. I wanted it to be relevant to my subject and eye catching.
I used a website called Look to design my website banner, in which I chose the icon colour slogan etc.

I put a box round the title and icon to resemble the pitch-side monitors in the premier league.
Also looked on twitter and facebook to see who I could interview fro my first news story. I Found a man called Keith Hackett that I could potentially interview.

Keith Hackett interview prep
Why i’m speaking to Keith Hackett
I’m speaking to Keith Hackett as because he is a former referee in the Premier league. he was in charge of several FA cup semi finals and finals as well as being an official in the European championships so he’s someone who is experienced when officiating high profile games.
Keith is also very opinionated and open about his views on VAR on such as social media platforms such as twitter. i feel i could get a really good interview from him as he’s passionate and obviously quote knowledgeable about the decision making process and the rules of the game.
As stated in my initial research VAR was first introduced to the premier league in the 2019/20 season after having successful periods in previous years in the FA cup and World cups.
VAR is now a main talking point on social media on most days so to have a top ex referee to interview is good for my FMP and extremely relevant to the topic.
Interview questions
- Do you feel like there were any incidents over the weekend that were controversial?
- What impact is VAR having on refs?
- Why aren’t refs advised to use the pitch-side monitors?
- do you feel refs should be using the monitors more?
- Would using pitch-side monitors make a big difference when making decisions?
- Do you feel the use of thicker lines when reviewing offsides is a step in the right direction?

Infographic Planning
For my second piece of assessed work I plan on doing an infographic. I feel like this is a good way to show people what effect VAR is having on the Premier League by using facts and statistics rather than just writing a 600 word article.
If i make my infographic clear and easy to understand then i feel my audience will interact with it.
I don’t just plan on having one page for everything, i feel if i split my infographic up into different slides for different facts then it will be easier to understand.
I aim to make my infographic about how VAR has affected each team in this seasons Premier League. For example where would each team be if VAR had not got involved in a goal they had scored or a penalty they should have had.
I could either do either do a small page for each teams in the league individually or answer different questions that fans are asking. I could answer the questions through facts and statistics. I feel the second idea would be most useful to a casual fan however fans of each team would like to see a page dedicated to there team.
Some pages i could make for example would be how much VAR costs to install into each Premier League stadium and the cost of running the technology.
I could also show some statistics about the staff that is need to keep VAR running smoothly. i feel like these are things followers would like to know as it something different to the usual negative content that is usually posted on twitter.
Design Planning
The design part of my infographic is a vital part of this piece of content.
Its great to have statistics that people haven’t seen before but if the design is not good enough then people just wont read it.
i did some planning on what i wanted my design to look like. i chose a colour scheme that seemed a good fit for my topic. i did try a few different templates as shown on the slideshow above to try and get my information across in the best way possible.
Fan opinion on VAR
For my third piece of assessed work i wanted to get in touch with fans of football clubs around the country to see what their opinions of VAR were.
i would like to make a short video for this part of my project to showcase what skills i have developed using things such as film editing software and asking suitable interview questions.
My first bit of planning is to find fans through social media platforms such as twitter to see who is vocal about VAR and ask them if they would like to be part of a short video about how different people feel about VAR. As i’m currently stuck in the house they will have to record the video themselves and send it to me. I will send them all the same 4-5 questions and see what variety of answers i get.
Once i’ve found 3-4 fans that are willing the film themselves answering questions and have received all of my replies i plan on piecing the best answers into a short video which i will then attach to an article.
I feel this is a good way for People to see what other fans think on the technology. it’s also a good way for people to get involved and voice their opinion on something they feel strongly about.
I have already seen a few fans on twitter that i believe would be a good fit for my video however its up to them if they’d like to be part of my video. i plan to ask fans of different football clubs up and down the country, not just fans of the premier league.
For this piece of content i wont need much equipment as its not me who is filming it. all i will need is my phone and laptop. The person doing the interview will also need their phone as well.
i will also need to use a good editing software to put the video together. For this bit of content i will use imovie as i have previous experience using it and feel confident that i can produce a good level of video with it.

Below i have attached screenshot of messaged i exchanged with one of my interviewees. As you can see initially he was confused with how the interview would be conducted however after explaining he was open to the idea much like the rest of the people i interviewed.
