An elderly couple was tied up in their property in Woodhouse, Sheffield, by two thieves at 2am yesterday.

Bob (86) and Sheila (79) Smyth who live on Windy Lane, Woodhouse, were left shaken and scared after they were tied to chairs in their own home while two intruders searched through their belongings looking for valuables to take.

Mr and Mrs Smyth were forced to hand over jewellery which consisted of a gold ring, antique necklace an diamond ear rings.

Amanda Browne (41) of Railings Road, Woodseats, said: ” My dad has a heart condition and the shock of being woken up in his bed could have killed him, and mum hasn’t been able to sleep since.”

A weapon was help to Mrs Smyth’s head in an attempt to intimidate the vulnerable couple

The weapon used am imitation handgun and the police aren’t  linking this to any other crimes.

investigating officer chief inspector, Mick Robbins said: “This was an unprovoked and terrifying attack on two vulnerable pensioners, all for £500 cash and jewellery worth £1,000.”

Entry to the house was made through a broken kitchen window the burglars are describes as, one having ginger hair, stocky and tall and the other also tall has brown hair and slim.
