Keith Hackett story
To begin with my conversations with Keith Hackett were going well and we organised a phone call interview for Monday the 9th march in the afternoon. Keith was happy to do the interview and had sent me some Information from IFAB (the international football association board) for me to read through prior to our phone call.
When it came to doing the interview on the Monday i messaged him to make sure he was still available to do the interview, however i didn’t receive a reply off of him until the next day. Because of this we had to re-arrange for Friday 13th in the morning as that was when Mr Hackett was next free.
Another problem occurred on the morning of the Friday as Keith had to do a radio interview in the morning where he was on call so he was unable to do it again when planned. i then asked if he would be available in the afternoon where we agreed a time of 2pm the same day.
Although the problems were an inconvenience i felt i handled them well and they didn’t really have any impact on my story other than it had to go up later than first planned. it didn’t alter my progress in terms of my FMP as i planned to do the interview well before the deadline, so while waiting to do the interview i had other things to be dong such as research and planning my next interview.
Another problem that i had to overcome was actually recording my conversation with Keith. I downloaded several different apps and softwares on my phone which would allow me to record my phone call. Many only allowed 2-3 day free trials which would then charge me and some did not work at all. after testing several different ones i came to the conclusions that i would either have to pay a lot of money for one of the apps or find an alternative.

I decided to try and find an alternative way of recording my interview with Keith. I found the best way to record it would be to put my phone on speaker and record it with a zoom mic. Although not very convenient it meant i would be ale to get a decent enough quality of audio to be able to transcribe.
Finding a way to record my interview did take a bit of time away from creating my content however now i know that i can record with a zoom mic it will save me time for future recordings.
Infographic feature
When creating my Infographic I had a number of different problems that i had to overcome, One being choosing the design in which i would best be able to represent my information. I first went with a template which didn’t really fit my theme and after trying to work with it for a while i decided that it would be best to try another one. This happened a couple of times before finally finding one which I felt looked the best on the eye and showed my information in an interesting and professional way.
This was a problem as it ate a large amount of my time up and put me behind in meeting my deadline. I did successfully overcome this problem as i found a design i was happy with and in time to get my statistics on to it before the deadline. In the future i would allow myself more time to choose a suitable design rather than just leaving it until it’s time to start adding information.
Another problem i had was sourcing my information for the infographic. while wanting to have different facts and statistics than other sites, i had to make sure that my sources were reliable and that the information i was getting was true. I came across many different websites that had different figures in terms of costings which proved to be a problem when trying to find the accurate ones.
To overcome this problem i only used trusted news outlets such as Sky Sports and the BBC to make sure what i was publishing was not inaccurate as i want my site to be trustworthy.
I also checked several times from different outlets to make sure the information i had was true. For example if i had a certain figure or date i would check different websites to make sure others had published the same information.
Although this took quite a lot of time it’s something i had to do as i didn’t want to publish false information. I feel i did overcome this problem successfully and i got the sufficient information needed for my infographic.
Fan opinion problem solving
When putting together my third piece of assessed work i had to overcome several problems. One being that i wanted to produce a short video for my site however as everyone is locked indoor because of the current pandemic it was difficult to do this.
I knew i wanted to do a fan opinion piece however i didn’t know how i could film people answering my questions without being near them and also would other people want to be near me with the current risk of infection.
To overcome this problem i looked or people who would be willing to film themselves answering some questions that i had sent them which i could then put together for a short video to attach to an article. Although this wasn’t ideal i felt it was the best option. the only other thing i could have done would be to facetime them and screen record that however by doing this the quality of the video wouldn’t have been as good.
Another problem that i encountered was actually finding people that were willing to film themselves. Not everyone is comfortable with being on camera so although many people had a strong opinion on the matter they didn’t want to record themselves.
This took a large chunk of my time up before my deadline as i was trying to find the right people who were able to give an informed opinion and that were willing to record themselves and let t be used for the public domain.
Another issue i had was getting my replies in time for the deadline once i had found the correct interviewees. I did send my questions with plenty of time however the people who i was interviewing struggled to find time in between their everyday lives.
Although in the end i did receive the videos i was hoping for it did take time and did delay me when editing and publishing it on my site.
There wasn’t really anything i could have done to counter this problem other than make sure everything is done on my end such as planning and research. Maybe in the future i could give them a deadline for there replies however i didn’t want to push them to much because of the current situation and how it may be affecting others.
