A)when reporting on sports editing skills are an important thing. Many news articles now have a video at the top of the piece for the reader to watch, especially in sports such as a player interview or game highlights. Most videos that are published require a good amount of editing.

Accuracy in a short space of time is a key when reporting on sports. especially when doing something like match reporting while the game is happening in front of you. you not only have to be quick when reporting one whats happened you also have to be accurate so that the audience are getting  the correct information.

confidence is a key thing when reporting on sports. For example when attending press conferences you have to have the confidence to ask a question to get material that you can report on after. You also need to confidence to ask someone for an interview such as a footballer or rugby player in a post match interview.

Accuracy is important when reporting on crime as any inaccuracy can land you in a lot of trouble. For example if you are reporting on a murder story and somethings are not true or have been made up then it makes you look bad and you can be faced with being taken to court. Also if you publish false information to the public then that give them the wrong idea as well.

when reporting on crime you do have to be thick skinned as most subjects will be quite sensitive. Many crime cases will be quite upsetting for one reason or another however as a reporter you have to get on with your job.

As a crime reporter you will also need a good memory as not all stories will be able to be published straight away. it could be months before certain court cases are allowed to be written about in detail so you will have to remember things from what happened at the time when the articles can actually be published.

Reporting on music would require you to listen to more than one genre of music. if you write about one genre of music then eventually the audience will begin to get bored of reading about the same stuff over and over again.

As a music reporter you will probably have to be un bias. if you don’t like a certain piece of music then that doesn’t mean everyone else won’t like it.

One skill that id say I’ve got is confidence. I believe that if I had to ring someone or meet someone to ask for an interview or do an actually interview I would be capable of doing that. If I didn’t have the confidence then that could potentially be a barrier when trying to get interviews for a certain piece I plan on writing.

A skill I feel I could improve is my editing skills. I do have a small amount of experience using editing software however it will need to be better in the future. most news articles or feature article have a piece of video at the top for the audience watch that is rated to the piece of wiring below. For me to have a good level of editing skills I need to be using the software more and gain more experience.

Another thing i feel i could improve on is my interviewing skills. when doing video interviews last time i felt it was rushed and the quality of the interview suffered as a result of that. The questions that i ask for interviews do need to improve. if i were to ask more open questions then i would get better answers rather than just one or two word answers.

The camera wasn’t set up right which led to my video being slightly slanted, this was because i hadn’t practiced before doing the interview at setting the camera and tri-pod up. I also felt the quality of the audio was poor as well. this was because of the location of the interview, this was my fault as i hadn’t been to look at the location beforehand. i feel if i improve on these things then my interviews would benefit a lot.

One thing i feel is going well is my feature writing. I prefer feature writing over news stories as it allows me to be more creative. Although theres still room for improvement i feel my feature writing is stronger than my news writing.

My camera skills are another thing that needs improvement. As i said before it has had a negative effect on my interviews so in future i want to be more confident when setting up and using the camera. For example getting the appropriate angle for what i’m filming and using the correct setting such as lighting.
